Jamie L. McCartney, Ph.D.
Interpreter/ Interpreter Educator
BIO
I have been a professional interpreter in Ohio for 21 years. Although I started my education at the University of Akron, I later transferred to Columbus State Community College. I graduated in 1993 with my Associate’s Degree in Interpreting and Transliterating. After working in Columbus for several years, I moved back home where I got my Bachelor's Degree in Technical Education in 1996. Technical Education is a degree program with a focus on adult learners and instructional strategies toward that end. I also got my Master's Degrees in Technical Education with a teaching concentration in 2002. I continued in my schooling getting my Ph.D. is in Secondary Education. My dissertation was a study measuring burnout of sign language interpreters grounded in Demand-Control Theory. Currently, I am a Assistant Professor at Kent State University. I am the Program Coordinator and Faculty Advisor of the ASL/ English Interpreting Program.
